Indiana
Indiana’s Shifting Gears efforts focus on improving postsecondary education options for lower-skilled and working adults and driving policy change through improved data collection and reporting. Thus far, Indiana has: - Formed a high-level policy team to identify opportunities to scale up and sustain innovation in workforce education, as well as related obstacles to that goal.
- Produced a report that identified nearly one million adults who have not completed high school, speak little or no English or are in families that earn less than a living wage.
- Created a new Indiana Workforce Intelligence System (IWIS) that will ultimately track student progress through the adult education, workforce development and postsecondary education systems.
- Launched the “College for Working Adults,” a new academic format designed to make high demand associate degree programs more accessible to working adults.
- Launched a series of local pilot programs to test how to best integrate remedial education with occupational education in community colleges.
